Marchamo: how much to set aside each month

The marchamo (annual vehicle circulation fee) is paid every year between November and December, and for a business with vehicles it is one of the big year-end expenses. Work out how much to set aside each month to pay it without touching December's cash.

Calculate

Set aside each month
₡20,000
Still to gather
₡240,000

How it is calculated

The marchamo bundles the vehicle property tax, the mandatory INS auto insurance and other stamps; the exact amount is published by INS and Hacienda every year based on the vehicle's fiscal value.

Take last year's amount (or the official figure when available), subtract what you have already set aside and divide the rest by the months left.

With several vehicles, add the amounts and use the total.

Example

Example: a ₡240,000 marchamo with twelve months ahead is covered by setting aside ₡20,000 a month.

Banker sets aside the marchamo every month automatically and warns you when it falls short. Create account

Is the marchamo deductible for the company?

The property tax on business-use vehicles is usually deductible; confirm with your accountant based on the vehicle's use.
